Universal Accreditation is a voluntary program that allows you to demonstrate proficiency in public relations through a standardized written exam following advancement from an oral readiness review.
Successful completion of the exam validates a PR professional's commitment to the field and level of knowledge in public relations practice. Successfully accredited public relations professionals have demonstrated broad knowledge, experience and professional judgment in the field.
The APR designation signifies a high professional level of experience and competence. Currently, the Volusia/Flagler Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association has 16 accredited members.
Once a PR professional has attained the APR designation, some continue their professional development by becoming a Certified Public Relations Counselor (CPRC). The Volusia County Chapter has two CPRC members, which requires over 10 years full-time experience, an oral exam and portfolio review.

Test fee for candidates
In late 2006, the Universal Accreditation Board introduced a re-examination fee of $200 for APR candidates who fail the computer-based Examination and retake it within six months of the date of failure notification. The reduced fee is offered as an incentive for candidates to retake the Examination while preparation is fresh on their minds. Candidates will be required to complete the Examination within this six-month period. With the reduced fee, UAB is recommending that those Participating Organizations that provide rebates pay them only the first time a candidate takes the computer-based Examination. To register for re-examination with the new, reduced fee, candidates can contact Jeff Nall, APR, CPRC.
Chapter
adds new Accreditation Resource Library The chapter now has a resource library, which is available to its members. The library consists of seven titles that can be used to expand your PR knowledge base and/or study for the accreditation exam. If studying for the exam, please note competencies that are covered by each book as listed.
The check-out system works much like the Volusia County Public Library System. Each book can be checked out for a three-week period. Renewals are also available if no one is on a waiting list for the book.
