PR perspectives panel shares experience with Chapter
A panel of
experts with more than 50 years of collective experience
in marketing, communications and public relations
highlighted the progra
m
for the Volusia/Flagler Chapter of FPRA’s monthly
meeting held at
Daytona International
Airport on October 14.
Marisol
Moreno, the chapter’s Vice-President for Programs, was
the moderator of the panel which included Bruce E. Dunn,
Daytona State College, Deborah Quackenbush, Raydon
Corporation, Maritza Rodriguez-Aouanough, Pevonia
International and Kenny Kane, Daytona International
Speedway.
All of the panelists
responded to questions from Ms. Moreno about the
qualifications and characteristics that an ideal
candidate for a public relations position should
possess. The panelists shared their perspectives on
resume writing, interview and communication skills,
references and cultural compatibility.
The
consensus among the panelists was that the ideal
candidate for employment within their organizations
should: be a good communicator, be passionate about
their career pursuits, fit and embrace the
organization’s culture, do research on the company and
align themselves with the organization’s style and
vision. Additionally, the panelists emphasized the
quality of the resume and cover letter, including an
objective that is customized to the position, a
consistency in work experience and skills in developing
relationships.
“In general I’m looking for
sophistication in how they explain who they are and how
they can meet the objectives of the position” said Bruce
Dunn. “A candidate must have a style and personality
that fits, and be a good match with and embrace the
organization’s culture and priorities.” added Deborah
Quackenbush.
About 30 people including six students from Bethune-Cookman University attended the monthly lunch
meeting.
